The short version: We had our 4th treatment today after finding one bedbug last week and not having found them for weeks. While I was out and about, I found this bug on my backpack which might be a bedbug, but might be something else. It was almost black, but had the body like a bedbug (with horizontal striations). It was very alive, and when I held it in my hand it moved more quickly and tried to start feeding on me.
The details:
A couple months ago we found bedbugs in one bedroom, but my roommate had been getting bit for at least a month before we realized what was going on. We had three treatments from a PCO who uses pesticides only and thought we had it under control. Before the third treatment we found one lethargic/possibly dead bedbug in my bedroom on my mattress. After the third treatment, we saw none for weeks.
Then last week I took a nap with my clothes on, took a shower, and saw that my shirt had a live bedbug on it. The bug was alive, but slow. I don't if the bug was in my bed (which is isolated with climbups and has an encasement), or in my dresser, or possibly made it through the drying cycle somehow, but it was there. I inspected all over my room and found nothing. I've since run all my clothes through the drier. We called the PCO who came out for our 4th treatment, and they treated the mattresses, baseboards, and couches, and they didn't see any live bugs.
While I was out and about, I looked over and saw this bug on my backpack. It was black and looked similar to a bedbug, but not similar enough that I could say with 100% confidence it was one. I don't know how it got on my backpack because I typically hang it up.
I'm now drying my bookbag on hot and will be putting it in with a Nuvan strip.
The question is: was this a bedbug? If so, what's going on? We haven't found any bugs or had any bites in the room where the infestation started, so I don't know why I found the one on my shirt, and now this thing on my bag. What should I be doing?
