MyLandlordSux on "Bagging items during extermination: reason?"

Hi everybody. So the company that our landlord hired to exterminate our apartment required extensive prep from us, including bagging up basically everything. We were to individually inspect (fan out & vacuum) each of our books (my boyfriend & I have a couple thousand at least), shoes & stuff in closets, etc. In addition of course to doing laundry according to proper protocol & bagging.

So practically everything we own is in giant Ziploc bags now. We got the first treatment yesterday. We are to keep everything bagged until after the second treatment, which will be in 10-14 days, and then unpack everything.

I'm wondering what the particular philosophy is behind this protocol. I asked the PCO who was exterminating, and, I kid you not, he said that it's so any stray bugs will suffocate in the bags. I know that's not true, so is it just so that they have fewer places to hide during treatment? I'm just afraid that if there are a couple of stray bugs in the bags, or if things aren't completely eliminated in two treatments, that we may have to go through this incredibly laborious prep work again. On the other hand, if there's a specific reason why we need to unbag after the second treatment (hungry bugs will come marching out & walk through residual spray?), then I guess we better do it.
