battlinbugz on "Odd "success" story - it really WAS neighbors"

Hello, all.

If you look at posts associated with my name, you will see that my apartment unit had bed bugs twice. Confirmed. Then after becoming better educated about the little creatures due to this fine website, I was "bug free" for about 2 years ... until around this time last year. Then sporadically I started seeing hungry bed bugs of different ages in the bathroom, kitchen, etc. That almost always points to a neighbor, especially being in the bathroom. These bugs had bizarre behavior. I even happened to see one walk right past me - a living host - and head to the kitchen. Yes, that guy was a confirmed bed bug too. Were they looking for snacks? Were they being repelled by something the neighbors were doing, making them loopy? (Self-treating for any pest without someone knowing what they're doing can turn into a hot mess for everybody.) Was it because of the perimeter of Cimexa I had placed around my apartment? An unsettling mystery.

Well, it took some months of patient persistence and working with the landlord and PCO, keeping them in the loop of what was happening. It was finally discovered that my next door neighbors had bed bugs, and the unit 2 floors below me did too. It took a bit longer to confirm that the unit below had them. The neighbors weren't speaking up, unfortunately.

After treatments of those units, for the past 6 months I have not noticed any bed bugs.

Another good thing that came out of this is that the landlord started placing bed bug awareness/prevention tips in the move-in packet for new residents. Would that have happened unless I had been somewhat of an activist, inspired by all the good people here on this site? I am not sure but I doubt it.

I thought this was worth sharing. Even as an apartment dweller, where there will always be some level of risk of ANY bug traveling around, you really can resolve any issues. What's one of Paul Bello's favorite lines? "They're just bugs." They may understandably drive us wacky sometimes, but they really are just bugs.

Thanks to Nobugs, KillerQueen, David, Paul Bello, Lou, and countless others for fostering a supportive community with sound, proven advice, and some laughs too!

As someone who has lived through this a few times, for whatever reason I was supposed to, take it from me that you can get through this. Hang in there, Buggers. You are in the right place for support.

May God bless you all this season and in the coming year.
