Came home from my boyfriends house and went into my mom's bedroom where she was sleeping. Woke her up and was talking to her when I saw this beady bug frantically crawling around her neck. I told her not to move and I immediately went to get a tissue and kill it. When I killed it, it felt like it popped and blood poured out of it. I put it into a ziplock baggie and after spending almost an hour and a half searching, I am almost 100% positive that it is a beg bug, most likely in the second stage. Upon finding this, we searched all over lifting up her sheets, inspecting the mattress, inspecting her wooden bedframe, and so on. She rarely sleeps in her bed and most often falls asleep on the couch, so we lifted up the cushions on that and inspected but found also nothing. No fecal matter, no sheddings of skin, no bugs, nothing. We have just yet to lift the bed/box spring up and check.

Now, about a year ago, I was staying at a family friends when they discovered that they had beg bugs (a pretty bad infestation if I do say so myself) and I have not returned to their house since. I went through all of the precautions of ensuring that the bugs did not enter into my own home, and since tonight, there have been no signs of bed bugs in my house. Could these instances be related? Or is it most likely that the bed bugs have been introduced some other way? I feel like we would noticeably have bed bugs if it's been a year..

We're very distraught about this, as you can all imagine, and if there seems to be no sign of bed bugs could this be a isolated incident? or perhaps a very small infestation?
