Short story:
We discovered bed bugs two weeks ago. Single family home, two adults and four kids, some evidence if bed bugs in all bedrooms and living room couch. Our PCO had us pack everything and move it to porch so he could have access to all the surfaces he wanted to spray. He came two weeks and two days ago and sprayed Suspend, Gentrol, and Bithor. Afterwards he told us to unpack everything and put our clothes back in the drawers, etc. I did not because I didn't want to jeapardize the 24 loads of clothes and stuffed animals I washed/dried while he was treating.
That evening, after we returned, we saw some dead bugs under the beds, but also a live one, which I collected to see how long it would live. It just died today. Since the spraying, we've seen more bugs, and our bed, which had very little evidence before, now has obvious eggs and fecal matter near where wood meets wood -- just about everwhere that wood meets wood. I know there's more because I check every day like a crazy woman.
I've called the PCO and told him what I'm finding. I asked him if I could spread DE or Cimexa, and he told me it would interfere with what he sprayed and that I just have to "ride it out." He insists that the risidual he left will take care of all the bugs and the eggs that will hatch in the future and that one treatment will be enough. He states that if I still see bugs after the five week mark to call him back; his guarantee is only good for six weeks.
My husband says we need to trust this PCO and give it time, but it is so worrisome to see more evidence of bugs. And to see that the bugs I've collected are living for weeks despite traveling through the residuals (the PCO says that the BB's need to travel multiple times through the residuals and that the ones I've collected haven't done so, which is why they're surviving). They seem as healthy as can be, though.
I don't know what to think. Is the PCO right? Can one treatment work? Do I go rogue and lay down the Cimexa (another PCO we talked to after this sketchy treatment said it wouldn't hurt)? Or do I cut my losses and contact another PCO? I'm not sure I was ever very confident with this one, but we don't have a lot of choice in a smallish town.
Please advise. I'm so afraid the problem will get worse and become harder to treat. I don't know who to believe.
