So, I have an appointment with a company to come in on the 20th and then again on the 27th for treatments consisting of steam, & chemical spraying.
I'm going on day 4 of not seeing a single sign of anything. No live or dead bugs of any kind (we've only found 6 total-ever), no new bites or welts. No signs of them in any other rooms, etc.
In the last week I have obsessively vacuumed my house, multiple times a day, have applied DE in small amounts, threw out couch that was in my living room (because it was falling apart, not because of any bug activity, but the couch in question was moved from the living room to my bedroom to hang out there over the holidays while the Xmas tree was taking up a large portion of the living room, we then found the bugs in my room while the couch was in here... I'm suspecting they were in the couch, which saw little use in the living room in recent weeks leading up to moving it... I could be wrong but it all adds up time wise nearly perfectly.)... So- Vacuuming, DE application, intense inspection, intense laundry/packing/cleaning of the whole house with a system of keeping clean items in bags and bins in a "safe" room. My bed has been taken apart completely every day- mattress and boxspring inspected daily, bedding washed or just put in the dryer on high heat for an hour- depends on the day and what piece of bedding it is...
Kids rooms have been turned upside down (they're on the second floor, we're on the first), no sign of them anywhere. Their beds are being inspected every other day/bedding thrown in the dryer and their rooms are being vacuumed daily as well. We still have never found a harborage or any fecal stains/spots or any smears on sheets to indicate bites and the only "skins" we (my husband) found were actually from Varied Carpet Beetle larvae that he mistook for being BB related. I've found a few Carpet Beetle adults here and there over the years, and a few adults just this past week... they don't bother me so I'm not concerned with them. Of the BB's we did find, only one was fed. The others were unfed, sluggish, and meandering along the top of bedding or on the floor in broad daylight. There WERE several life stages though. Only one adult that was found, the others were nymphs of various sizes.
I do have bites on me, but they're "old" and fading. Most were on tops of feet and ankles, primarily on the left.
Anyway... what I'm getting at is... lets hypothetically say that I see nothing else between now and the 20th... should I still have them come in and drop big $$$$ on treatments or take a further watch and see stance? What would you do personally if you were in that situation? I don't want to spend a ton of money and then regret it and feel like I threw it down the drain. I also don't want to take the chance of a problem becoming huge, though I could get the company in at any time after the 20th if I need them- within a day or so of calling them.
I'm not getting my hopes up here.. I'm still in the mindset that I could be in "the calm before the storm" and I'm expecting to see more and have it get worse.... it's just been awfully uneventful... has anyone ever just had a few that were of various life stages?
I wish I had more evidence to go on. Like I feel a little insane that I'm not finding anything anywhere to the point that I'm like "Damn! Not there either!" and almost wish I'd find something.
