Since we found a BB three days ago Ive used this forum as a resource a lot and decided to post my story and get some feedback.
We live in a single story 3 bedroom house in AZ. Its just my wife and I and only have two bedrooms with carpet and two queen beds. We found an adult BB in the master bedroom and a smaller one in the guest room. Because I didnt know exactly what I was "supposed" to do, I immediately took the beds and box springs and frames to the dump. I started bagging up stuff that is easily replaced like bedding and pillows and threw those away also. We are bagging up the clothes and taking them to the laundry mat to use industrial washer/dryer, then ill rebag in new bags and seal them up.
Ive consulted a professional and have decided to treat the place myself, here is what ill be doing, any advice is welcomed.
I dont have beds any more so thats not an issue, but the dressers have been emptied and the drawers will be pulled and vacuumed and flipped up side down in the room. Everything that cant go into a washer/dryer will be pulled from the room and sealed in large mattress bags and treated with Nuvan Prostrips, then REbagged in a new bag. (oh, the bags im using are contractor grade 3 mil). Ive drilled 1/8" holes in the wall above the baseboard ever 8 inches in the two bedrooms and living room. Inside the walls I'll be spraying PT Phantom II with a straw that sprays in all diretions. I'll also be spraying Phantom in all cracks and crevices and behind wall plates. Ill also be pulling the carpet up around the wall and spraying under there with phantom and also leaving Alpine Dust (DE) around the perimeter. Everything left in the room including the carpet will be sprayed down with Temprid SC as an insecticide and Gentrol as a sterilizer for the female BB. I also have Alpine spray that will be sprayed under the sofas and furniture in the bedroom (dressers). I'll continue to spray Temprid every 2-3 weeks for a few months.
While we are treating we will be sleeping in the room, on an air mattress...on a tarp...with upside down packing tape around us. I'll continue to spray the entire house with Temprid just as a general insecticide treatment.
also worth noting is that my wife has been bit and shows marks, I'm sure I've been bit as well, but Im one of the 30% of people with no reaction. She started showing marks about 4 months ago. We recently had a house guest for a few weeks in the guest room which is hopefully why there were BB in the guest room. I'm hoping that the bugs are contained to the bedrooms, the rest of the house is tile and we have very little "stuff" so its not cluttered at all. We searched and searched the sofas and chair in the living room and found no indication of BB, but theyll be treated anyway. I'll be treating both rooms and walls, etc at the same time as not to push them from one place to another. I'll also probably use a hair dryer or heat gun now and then on various surfaces just for good measure.
Thats my plan....what do you think? from what I've read and seen this is similar to what PCOs will do. I'll be checking and rechecking and monitoring, since we found them and got rid of the mattresses we havent seen any, I even get up and look around with lights in the middle of the night.
Please let me know what you think, especially any professionals out there..
Thank you!!!!!
