So I went downstairs to take a shower Saturday (1/23) and due to a horrible experience with bed bugs at my old apartment last April, I've become very vigilant and tend to check everywhere all the time for the little blood sucking jerk ninjas. So of course I look around, and what do I happen to find? A dead nymph hanging out on the heater. My heart sank. I went into panic mode. I picked it up, ran up the stairs, opened my bedroom door, my husband looked at me and just knew. I broke down. After I calmed down I informed all the tenants here that I did find one and what they should look for. We live in a four unit home. My unit shelters my husband, my daughter and I. The other three are single genetlemen. One is a home contractor, one works for a cable provider, and one is a used car salesman that works for my landlord (my landlord owns a real estate business and a used car dealership). I'm a stay at home mother, my husband works at a place where they make stuff for chimneys and stoves. I never have anyone over other than my daughters speech therapist who I informed about the situation and she said she hadn't been getting bit or had seen anything (she has really bad reactions to insect bites). Two of my neighbors have people over here and there and are obviously in fields where they are in and out of homes. The car salesman does deal with the public and used cars, so who knows on that one.
But anyway, back to the moments after I found the nymph.. So I don't have my landlords direct number. The only thing I could do at that point was call the handyman and ask if he could let my landlord know since I discovered we had mice (or something) crawling in our walls a week or two prior to that and the landlord sent the handyman here with a plank of wood to handle the situation So he said he'd contact him and text me back. No one called or texted me back (as always). So Monday rolls around, I call over to the dealership and speak to his secretary and she said she'd contact the landlord and let him know. I wait three hours and call back since no one contacted me and she said she thought he contacted me since he walked away with his phone when she told him. She said none of his 60+ properties have ever had problems like I seem to be finding here and that she'd tell him again. Again I wait, and nothing. So I called our boroughs code enforcement officer and he said he'd contact him (which he did). The next morning (1/26) I call the dealership and his assistant informs me that they'd be sending someone over the next morning (today). She also feels the need to mention that if they found anything that it'd be a "big deal", and she hopes I'm WRONG even after I told her that I woke up with that I thought was a bite on my arm and that I saved the dead bug I found
So this morning (1/27) the exterminator comes over, doesn't seem thrilled with my existence to begin with, then starts feeding me bullshit stories about bed bugs and throwing the facts I was sharing with him (I did a lot of research the first time around, lol) right out the window. Not to mention his method of checking for bed bugs was just to open a door and flash a light in. Granted he checked the mattresses a bit, but his search was not thorough at all. He also claimed to not find anything anywhere else and my closest neighbor said he didn't feel the search was thorough either. They lasted only about 5ish minutes too
He supposedly owns his own business too
I'm just at my whits end on this situation. At my last place, my landlady got on the issue ASAP. She actually hired a guy that worked for an actual company and he did it for her as a side job for cheap. He used "SUSPEND" to treat twice and it did work. We threw out most of our stuff even though he said we didn't have to and donated a lot of our clothing (after washing and drying of course) so our apartment now is very empty.
I just don't know what to do. I also think the guy today charged my landlord for the inspection? And of course after not being home all day to try and keep my anxiety at bay, I come home to hear the supposed mice scratching in my ceiling (they're in the attic crawl space).
Other than the ONE dead nymph and the one supposed bite, there's nothing. The last time I reacted to bites horribly, and I also found more than one bug AND found fecal stains in our couch. That time we found they came from the tenant two floors down. He was attempting to treat using flea and roach spray for a few weeks prior to them coming up to our apartment This time who knows..
What do I do from here? Should I worry? Wouldn't waiting to get more bites or to find more lead to a worse and harder to treat infestation?
Also, no one else in the building reacts to insect bites, only me :/
Sorry for the novel. I held off posting here for a bit, but after today it's just spewing all out.
Sigh.. HELP!
