Hello Everyone,
After many sleepless nights, I had to tell my husband that I can not continue to be in a relationship with him. We have been married over 35 years and this is just killing me. His parents have bedbugs. They will not do anything to rid their house of them. Early this spring, when the infestation was discovered. We spent 10 days there cleaning, dry cleaning, and emptying their bedroom. We had to purchase new mattress and box spring because the exterminator said they were so infested.
We have been back to visit a few times, and the bedbugs are still present. My father in law refused to have the other necessary sprayings after we left. I feel that every time we go we are playing Russian roulette with these bedbugs. I couldn't even go in last time, my husband does try to be careful but.....
Neither of my in laws practice personal hygiene. In fact my father in law refuses to allow anyone to wash his clothes. I understand he has been in the same pajamas for months and hasn't bathed for much longer than that.
To get to the point, I have had many sleepless nights. I had to tell my husband today that I have to leave our relationship because I do not want to risk myself or anyone who lives in our home to bedbugs. I can't expect him not to see his parents, so I feel my only choice is to remove myself from the situation. He doesn't seem to understand the stress, psychological effects and toll this is taking on me. Am I blowing this out of proportion?
I also feel it's not fair to anybody who enters their home, be it a friend,family or home health worker to not be aware of the situation and risk their environment to these bedbugs. I believe it is just morally wrong. My inlaws are very unreasonable people and the best word I can think of to describe my father in law is a bully.
Any insight would be welcome. My husband tells me I am not being reasonable. Thank you.
