Hi everyone,
I am a PhD student in the third year and the worst happend: bed bugs. My partner had some red spots for 3 months on body and see a doctor and the doctor said this might be insect. However I did not believe since we are sleeping on the same bed. If it were insect they would bite me. Then our sleepless nights started after catching an insect two weeks ago. We killed it. The following night another one we killed the same. Then when I google for insects sucking blood on the internet I found in one second the pic of the insect that we killed and heard the first time its name bed bugs. After reading some I almost lost my mind and stop reading and call the landlord. He moved us to a hotel room and have the room treated with Residex P powder and some bombs on last Thursday. We evacuated all stuff before this treatment. Then we spent whole 3 days washing and drying clothes and checking and re-packing my study materials and books. When we returned to the room on Sunday we saw some crawling on the bed. So we extended our staying at hotel since they will do a second treatment for eggs hatched. I guess they will do it on this Thurday(7th day after the first treatment). We are not good emotionally and threw almost all bedding stuff, shoes, many cloths, some electronics... we have some doubts about if they will all go even after second treatment. Do you think we should ask the landlord that he could changr the matress and bed frame? I bought a matress cover but how can I be sure if the bed frame still has some eggs. We are insanely living with plactic bags now. We are washing clothes every day after we wear during the day.
Another issue is my books and printed articles. I wrapped them many times with cling film and put in a food freezer bag and will start keeping them in groups in freezer for 7 days. I have checked them all and it seems they are all clean. But I feel I have to do it just in case there may be eggs which cannot be seen with naked eye. If you have any suggestion on treatment on books I really appreciate. I read about this zappbox but I cannot afford it. So I try freezing. How long should I keep my books in bag? Is bed bug die from lack of oxygen?
