Yesterday morning (April 25), I woke up with bites on my leg. I believe it was 3; 2 clumped together to make one large bite and one beside it, I knew what bites looked like, and those looked exactly like them (for approaching a year now, my boyfriend has had bed bugs and his parents have still not fixed the issue. I had gone to his house and he had gone to mine, and usually once I got home I would throw my clothes in the dryer. We took some preconditionary measures, but obviously not enough.) The morning I got the bites I asked my mom about it, and she said "I don't know what it's from, some bug I guess." She followed this by slapping some calintine lotion on it and shipping me off to school. Once I got home from school, I immediately went to my room to check my bed for bedbugs. I checked all around the seams of my bed and under the box spring. For a few minutes I took a break from doing this, when I came back I continued searching and low and behold: there is a bedbug just chilling on the side of my mattress. No, not in the seams. Just on the mattress (this probably because I disturbed it). I immediately jumped up and told my mom. She got the bug and put it into a plastic bag. Following that, I took all of the clothes and anything cloth that was on my floor and put them into a garbage bag. We also took my bed sheets, comforter, pillow cases and pillows and did the same. My sister in the next room over did the same as well. We threw out my bed stuff, but took my clothes and such to the laundry mat, washing and drying them on the highest setting (they are still in the bags in my mother's car). We also decluttered and vaccumed every inch of my room, all sides of my mattress as well as my box spring (including the seams) and took down my curtains. My mother steamed my entire closet, all the clothes in it as well as all sides and seams of my mattress. My sister also vaccumed all ends of her room, but I'm not sure about her mattress. My sister checked her mattress for bugs and found nothing, and the same for my brother. This bore no fruit. While cleaning all ends of my bed and box spring, I did not come across any bed bugs. The only sign I found were droppings around the seams of my mattress around where I first discovered the bed bug. That is it. I believe the bed bug was an adult. Last night, I slept on my living room couch and will again tonight. (Yes- I know you aren't supposed to do this but I am NOT sleeping in my bed until a professional has assured me that the bugs have been completely irraricated). Did my family and I take the proper precautions? Did we do something wrong thay would have made it worse? And one more thing- I am now not going over to ny boyfriends house or letting him over until it is CONFIRMED his issue has been solved, but would it be safe for me to ride in his car? I go to church with him every sunday and would hate to have to stop. Thanks for reading, and please help.
