Hi all,

Long story short, my roommate (separate bedrooms) was getting bites and she notified our landlord within days, who brought in a bedbug sniffing dog. The dog alerted at two different spots in her room but nowhere else in our 2-bedroom apartment. I checked out this site and read that dogs sometimes can falsely alert for carpet beetles, etc.

Is it naive to think it's not actually bed bugs? Our landlord is bringing in a company to do thermal + pesticide treatment and the prep is a headache, especially as I work 60-70 hour weeks and am basically drying into the wee hours of the morning every night. My roommate has not seen any evidence of bugs on her sheets, and we checked her mattress and box spring when she first started getting bitten. At this point we'll probably just go through with the treatment but how do we know for sure??

Assuming the dogs was right and it is bedbugs, I have a few questions:
-What happens if no one has been sleeping in the apartment for about a week? Will they wander around the rooms?
-What if I stay in my bedroom and my roommate isn't in hers? Will they seek me out in a matter of days or would it take longer?
-Does the lack of the dog's alert in my bedroom confirm that my room is free of bugs?
-Does the prep work (ripping sheets off beds, moving clothes around and into bags etc) disturb them and cause them to be more active then they otherwise would?
-Do the treatments actually work??

Thanks so much, I can't tell if I'm in serious denial or if there's a chance we may not have them...I'm worried about treating and her bites not going away and having to go through this song and dance again in a month.
