My partner and I bought our first home (attached townhouse) back in December 2014. We spent the whole day moving and being exhausted at the end of the day I put our mattress directly on the floor (too tired to set up the bed) and went to sleep. I woke up at midnight to my cat actively hunting bedbugs on our mattress. Our bedbug horror story began..... We promptly started spraying the hundreds of bedbugs that were coming out from the baseboards (attached wall to our neighbours) and tossed out the mattress which caused the bugs to disperse throughout our house. Basically we did everything wrong because of lack of knowledge about these bugs. The next day I started my research about these bugs and luckily came across this site. We called an exterminator who offered heat treatments and he came over that week. The treatment took 6 hrs and when I came home our place still felt as hot as an oven. Unfortunately the treatment didn't get all the bugs and it took another heat treatment, 3 professional sprays, our neighbours treating and our own treatment to finally get rid of these bugs. After each heat treatment with residue sprays along the walls the bugs just kept coming. The numerous bugs seemed to have made a permanent residence inside of our attached walls. I found the best pesticide barrier to be Cimexa. With any other residue pesticide some of the bugs still managed to get though and survive with Cimexa none of the bugs survived. It took me months after this was all over to feel remotely comfortable in our new home. I kept a Cimexa barrier along the walls until a month ago. Our new neighbours were hoarders and had no problems living with these bugs so it took pressure from our condo board to get them to treat. Its almost a year later and 4 months since our last bug sighting that I finally feel confident enough to post this success story (better late then never). We now regularly inspect our bed, our lint trap and our homemade monitors. I still read the posts on this site daily because although bedbugs terrify me I'm also fascinated by them. Good luck to all who are in war with these parasites and try to get some sleep!
