I'm in a hotel that in 200 reviews on a travel site had no bug complaints, but a small stain on a pillowcase and I'm losing my mind. I have to take two planes to get home, and then my boyfriend wants me to visit him for a few days.

I don't think I can do it. I'm going to be too paranoid that from the plane or rental car alone that I'd accidentally infect his apartment with bugs. I'm already scared that I'll bring them back to my parents house.

Hi experts-
I found a stain on my bed- it started out as a black dot with a thin line that was about an inch-inch and half. I used some water to see if it would smear (smear test?) and it didn't- actually some of it washed away. In the picture below, if you zoom in, you can see where the black dot started and the trail of the rest of the line. These are all pictures of the same stain from different angles/flashes/zooms. This is the picture of what was left behind. I'm out of bed bug blue and still on high alert after a trip- could an expert let me know if this looks fecal related or is possible something else (maybe dirt or from a pen?)
Thank you!! Much appreciated

Hi guys,
As some of you might know from my other post I am moving from a place that was suffering from bed bugs.

I heat treated all my clothes and even hired a packtite to take care of my personal items and cases. Everything as I moved into the interim airbnb place remains sealed in bags. However.

Tonight I noticed in my last night before I move to my new place that the airbnb windowframes had some guests present.

I believe the bugs are cockroaches and their larvae but I wanted your input.

Specifically I'd be keen to know what the small black insect I found on the windowframe wall is. My immediate fear was it was a bedbug nymph but it's coloring was very dark and it's ass end was shiny.

Now I have been having relentless red marks on my hand specificslly and pimples on my chest and thighs. The doctor is fairly sure is dermatitis and could be triggered by stress over the whole thing. But now I'm not so sure . I even treated for scabies incase.

Hi all,

I have a bagless vacuum. I will be washing the canister with hot water and soap after I vacuum. I read how to use the knee highs to prevent bed bugs from entering the hose.

HOWEVER, I have already been vacuuming without using the knee high method and fear there are bed bugs I cannot get to inside the vacuum, such as in the part of the hose that does NOT detach, but it attached to the vacuum itself.

How can I ensure there are no BB's in the part of the hose attached to the vacuum, and that there are no BB's in the bottom part of the vacuum that does the sucking up of debris?

Thanks all.

I'm having a really busy week so have to go to bed quite late (3-4 AM) and every time find a bug "waiting" for me on my side of the bed, not even trying to hide, and when I switch the light on (which I will always do from now on) I see another one running on the floor. I started switching on the light (not using a torch) and checking in and under the bed at different times and there's nothing there.
Also, my OH falls asleep at about midnight (he actually goes to bed earlier but I understand they will normally feed when you are fast asleep?) and never gets any bites, but they are already in bed when I get in .
Is it possible for them to know excatly when they are going to get their meal from their favourite person, just like cats wake you up at exactly five every morning demanding their food?

I have Ehrlich technicians coming out Tuesday for the 1st of 3 chemical treatments. Me and my cat need to be out of the apartment for at least 4 hours after. I wasn't told what the chemical they're using is.

The reason I ask: If it's a fog type spray (which I wouldn't be surprised if it is, being that we need to vacate for 4+ hours), I would be glad because that makes me think it will permeate all the crevices, boxes, etc. that are in my apartment.

If it's not a fog type spray that reaches everything in the apartment, I am thinking about bagging up my belongings and using Nuvan strips, after reading a lot about them.

But then again, they didn't say to put anything in the kitchen away, which makes em think it's not a permeable fog.

Anyone have any idea what they might be using? I can't reach them at this time.

Thanks all.

My former roommate had bedbugs in our apartment last September. None in my room but we did massive lockdown in any case, with bagging/hotlaundering all clothings etc. and four PCO visits. My room did have a rather gross carpet beetle invasion, which the PCO said was also eradicated by the same bedbug chemicals. The PCO gave me the all-clear to move in mid-November, and that all my furniture was safe to move with me. I have mattress and pillow encasements, as well as climbup feet on the bed.

Now living the life of extreme bug paranoia: Occasional feeling of bugs crawling on me at night but turning a light on and inspecting brings no evidence.

Got four large bites on my back in February that are still present but not longer itch, and a fleeting circular rash on my shoulder in March. [Was tested for allergies incl. dust mites but no dice] No bites or feeling of crawling bugs on my boyfriend.

Have not seen blood smears, but possible staining on my plywood bedframe with small black dots (fecal matter?). However, not positive that this was not present before my move, due to the carpet beetle invasion of the fall.

Using tape to capture every small speck on my white flannel sheets but no conclusive evidence. (Bf is a sock-to-bed wearer and on cold nights we wear fluffy sweaters that shed pills)

PHOTOS HERE

Do I call a new PCO, or is there not enough signs for it to be worthwhile? My bf would appreciate being able to let the blankets drag on the floor again. Should I wipe down the plywood bed frame and see if anything reappears?

Is it safe to put DE under an oven to rid of bugs (not sure what type, but not BB) in cat food bowl?
I know they're hiding there but can't think of anything else to use.

I am still here, trying to figure out whats biting us.
We got bites on legs, hands, and neck.
Bites are itchy with pus (abit painful) or usually when the pus is broken, will have middle prick with blood or oozing liquid.

So far, thanks to this forum, spring tails are identified.
I found another bug today. I thought it might be spring tail, but then I thought it looks a bit different.

Can someone help to ID this?
Thank you!

My wife went with a friend to some place to learn about sewing, and is staying at a home owned by the in-laws of another friend. She is still in the area for most of the day. She texted me this morning staying she saw a couple brown bugs on the mattress in the morning. She was given a sleeping bag which she used a blanket on this mattress. Tried to send me a pic, it is far too blurry for good ID but it is roughly the colour and proportions of a bedbug.

I can't think of anything I want more right now, than to avoid brining anything home. She and her friend had suitcases on mattresses on the floor. They will be traveling back together in our vehicle. By the time I received her text, they had already loaded their things back into the vehicle. I want to make sure I am giving good advice to her. So far I have suggested:

- Collect a bug in a ziploc for ID (or to put our minds at ease if it is not)
- Put anything that was in that house into large black garbage bags for the trip home
- Advise all friend there of the situation
- Upon return, she will strip down to undies (should it be naked?) in the garage, bag clothes and leave outside, proceed directly to shower
- Everything from suitcase will go into plastic bag in garage. I will then dispose of suitcase in outdoor garbage bin, it will never enter house (it is very old and we have plenty of others)
- Everything from bags will go into washing machine on hot water only, then into dryer on hot
- Everything disposable from her purse goes into outdoor trash before purse enters house. If purse is old, I will recommend just chuck it, get new one (not a big deal). Purse and/or any remaining non-disposable items other than keys and phone will go into freezer for a few days
- I will vacuum the vehicle throughly, and leave vacuum in garage.
- Leave vehicle doors open overnight so if bugs travel, they perhaps leave the vehicle to outdoors (will leave a small gap at bottom of garage door)
- In a few days when temp will hit below freezing, leave van parked outside

I really don't know how much of this is overkill, what is necessary vs not. Would love modifications or improvements to this plan.

Hi,

I am exhausted researching different methods of what to do. I was about to order a bug oven and nuvan strips. The exterminator didn't tell me to do any of those things, just what is on the preparation guide for the 3 chemical treatments. I've read horror stories about exterminators who don't know what they're doing, and I have a hard time relinquishing control if that possibility exists.

This morning I called my fiance who is away for 3 months at job training. I haven't had bites in 3 days and the mattress and box spring have been encased for a few days. He suggested I just do what the exterminator told me to. I'm beginning to think I'll do that. I can't keep this up.

I am just looking for reassurance and permission to not drive myself obsessive with this, and just do what is recommended by the professional. I'm just so worried that if I don't do EVERYTHING in the world for treatment and prevention that I read about, that I might miss ONE bug and the problem will begin again.

Thanks...

So over all this. Pro gave an all clear. We went nine days without any trace... and what do I find today? You guessed it, a BB just freaking hanging out on the wall. Fed too! (Freaked out cause no one in this house has a trace of bb bite we all react in big welts) it wasn't grown, I would say about to shed then be an adult. Where the heck are they coming from if even the pro couldn't find them!? No one left the house yesterday so I know it wasn't brought in to us. My question is can they get out of a mattress cover? Like maybe through a hole I don't know about? Only thing I can think of. May start crying at this point. Should I bring in another company to check it out again?

Hi Everyone,

I found a few questionable stains on my sheets when I was doing my monthly check and I wanted some opinions. It seemed to red for me to check with Bed Bug Blue, and I know that fresh blood can sometimes set off Bed Bug Blue, and I didn't want to get a false positive. I'm thinking it's a fresh blood spot, rather than a processed blood meal, and therefore not indicative of bed bugs and not necessary for testing, but I wanted to see what others thought. I'm trying to get better at knowing what should be checked and what doesn't seem possible. Is it something I should have tested based on color?

Thanks!

I'm really struggling with whole bed bug thing. I'm not sure if it's actual bugs or just head bugs. IV been completely obsessed with this situation and its mentally wearing me down. I can't seem to let it go. I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing are bites or not and when I try to find evidence I can't find anything definitive suggesting bed bugs. I found a company that will bring a dog to come do an inspection for $350. At this point I'm really considering it. I mean that's a pretty big price tag but feel like maybe it'll be worth my peace of mind. One way or another I know I need to move forward and not be trapped in this feeling of limbo. I just don't know now go about that.:( any thoughts/advice would be helpful. Thanks

I'm trying to figure out if my apartment has bed bugs. I've read the faqs and I realize that bedbugs can't be "diagnosed" from a bite reaction. Still, I wonder if someone can help me. I get four or five bites in one night, every 9 to 14 days. No bites in between. I'm vacuuming daily, laundering a lot.

Sometimes the bites are clustered together in a row. They're always on my left limbs or left side of my torso (I sleep on my left side).

The bites get redder and itchier as the day goes on. They itch like made for a week, and leave quite a scar for a few weeks (without my doing any scratching).

This started early April. Early, mid, and late April, and now, nine days after the last one, a new set of four bites on the left side of my back.

Can bed bugs bite as infrequently as that? My reaction is very strong; I don't think there are other bites I'm not noticing.

Any help appreciated.
