Need some experts to tell me if I'm overreacting or justified. It's totally fine to tell me I'm crazy :)
I found two "teenager" bed bugs (one under the comforter, the other on top) around 8 or 9pm last Saturday night. Then a few possible nymphs fell off a piece of furniture I had just moved from that room to my furniture studio in the room next door. Found a few pest companies with good yelp reviews (tho none referenced BB) and their sites said they did them. Was able to reach one company on Sunday. The owner confirmed from my photos that they are in fact BB. (I also had another pest co confirm from photos). So the owner said he would send someone Wednesday to treat and to leave the bedding for them and they would bag it all up.
My investigative findings:
Two live bed bugs - guest room
A few blood drops on sheets - boys room
Possible minimal fecal staining in one spot - boys room
Found one small skin casing - girls room (later found a live bug near it after treatment)
A few blood drops on sheet - my master bedroom
Living room/upstairs common area - no visible activity
Possible nymphs falling off of Goodwill furniture onto table in office (dont judge I've learned my lesson not to buy second hand lol) I didn't save these guys or take a photo and I'm kicking myself.
So far the exterminator:
-bagged all the bedding in the guest room
-treated all mattresses and box springs in all bedrooms
-sprayed the baseboards in all bedrooms
-sprayed some seams of rarely used couch in the common area between the upstairs bedrooms
-sprayed my office perimeter (tho I haven't been in the confirm)
-sprayed the drawers of nightstands near beds (he had to come back to do this Thursday as it wasnt done Wednesday and I questioned it with his boss)
-sprayed the underneath of our living room couch we spend a lot of time on
-treated the "nymph" furniture tho said it didnt look to be infested
So far I have:
-Encased all box springs and all other mattresses after treatment. My mattress was already encased.
-I also installed climbups on three of four beds. They won't fit on my daughters bed.
I haven't gotten any other guidance on things I need to do other than run all clothes through the dryer on high for 30 minutes and bag and not return bags to the treated rooms.
I guess I'm just looking for some guidance and peace of mind. I am making myself sick and can't sleep. I need to know what I should be doing these two weeks while I wait for them to come back.
What cleaning can I do?
Did he treat all the areas that needed to be treated? The closet in the guest room was left completely alone and there is bedding in there.
What do I do with my kids toys? I've been heating plush toys for 30 minutes and bagging them but I want to make sure they are safe for later or if I need to do more to them.
What do I do with the plastic toys?
....the different opinions on all the different things to do has me frozen.
He didn't think it would even be necessary to come back in two weeks. His boss said otherwise. But his boss is also the owner. The exterminator said he was just trying to save me money. The fact that he didn't think they needed to come back has thrown off alarms in my head.
Another thing thats bugging me (ha) is that he handed me four pillows that he had removed the covers from and told me to take them down and throw them in the dryer. Shouldn't these have been bagged to be transported ANYWHERE?
I haven't had any bites and nothing in my climbups so far.
I'm not trying to be difficult. I just want to keep this under control. It seems like it is probably a low infestation but reading through all these forums I am scared shi*less. Having trouble sleeping and all my life has turned into bagging, heating and rebagging possessions for a family of four.
I'm debating on having another company come out next week to do an inspection. So far I've spent $300 with my current company plus the cost of all the encasements and climbups.
The other company inspection will be $200 but if I need to switch companies I would rather do it now. I'll save that much in the long run if the consensus is the one I'm using stinks?
Thanks for any input. Sorry so lengthy.
