I recently found out that one of my client's homes was heavily infested with bed bugs (around January 2016), his bedroom being the epicenter of infestation. I had him ride in my car two times (about 30 minutes each time), before being aware that his bed was heavily infested. He also placed a backpack in my trunk on one occassion - it sat in there for an hour or so.
I'm not here to ask for gauranteed likelihoods of if he brought a bug(s) in to my car, or my trunk off the backpack, but rather - assuming he DID, what would the behaviour of bed bugs in a car be? These transports happened in January, and where I live, the temperature has been anywhere from -10 to -40 every time the car is turned off overnight. Considering this, could potential bugs in the car or trunk have gone dormant, or, each time I get in my car to drive and it warms up, would any potential/soon to be hungry bugs be attempting to feed on me, or would they be confused at the constant temperature fluctuations (driving/parking overnight in the cold) and staying dormant?
Also wondering if there were potential bugs in the trunk, how determined would they be to crawl under the back seat to seek me out in the main cabin of the vehicle?
Thanks for any knowledge experts here may be able to reveal for this - much appreciated to better understand the behaviour considering these circumstances!
