I have been reading this site nearly nonstop these days. My Asperber's doesn't help.. I can get obsessive. There is a lot of information to read and it is kind of scattered throughout various threads/FAQs. So, I thought I'd ask to get a consolidated chunk of data.
Now, I have already treated with Bedlam Plus and DE Powder after watching a ton of videos and reading instructions and such. I think I did a fairly decent and thorough job without firehosing my apartment with chemicals and dust. So, I am not going to put down anything else for at least a few weeks. BUT, for the next treatment or if I need to know this information for, god forbid, a future infestation, it is good info to possess.
Ortho:
The Ortho bottle says that it has a residual affect of up to two weeks, but it is also supposedly a contact killer (if I am understanding it correctly, I may be confused). Does anyone have experience with this product? Is it overkill to use it along with Bedlam or BedlamPlus, or should it be used in conjunction with it?
Temprid SC:
Basically the same question as for the Ortho. Should this be used along with Bedlam or is it better to use it on its own? I understand it to be a residual kind of thing. I am unsure of the specifics of how it kills, though. I don't remember right now. Would is be useful to use as maybe a second treatment after my Bedlam wears off? Is it superior to Bedlam? And, I know that is subjective, but I am hoping to gather opinions based upon personal experience.
Cimexa Dust:
I saw a study from the University of KY which says DE powder is not super effective, but Cimexa does work. I tried to look into it more, but I ended up going in circles. What about DE makes it ineffective. Does Cimexa stick better to the bugs? Is a death by DE slower than Cimexa? I know Cimexa is apparently safe-ish, but does it pose more of a risk to health for people/pets than DE? I notice it appears to have more warnings. But, again, that is based off of research that really kept going in circles.
There really should be some kind of consensus about treatment. Most industries have some kind of standards. I know dealing with bugs is different than manufacturing a screw, but it seems like there are huge gaps in how pest people think and what they know. As a pest sufferer, it is troublesome.
The good news is I have yet to see any more bed bugs. Nor have I seen any evidence of them. I don't know how secure that makes me feel. I have never felt the effects of a bite. So, I may not know if I am being assaulted at night. But, I do inspect everything all the time and I see no fecal spots or shells and stuff. So, I think I am on the road to success.
There is a company who specializes in removing infested furniture. They quoted me about $200 to remove my sofa. I can't spare that cash for such a service. So, i might have a friend help me take ot out to the curb. I will do my best to make it unattractive. I might put a sign on it that says it is infested. It is a nice sofa. I can see someone being tempted to take it.
