I was curious in finding out if any of the experts think its likely for bed bugs to be feeding on mice in a home that has occupants sleeping 2 stories up and dogs 1 story up. The reason I ask this question is because I know I had an issue with mice prior to getting treated for the bed bugs found in a basement room. I had my entire single family home heat treated and chem treated on the same day. I was cleared by a K9 inspection and never found any live bed bugs or clear signs of a continuing issue.
Fast forward 6 months later, I was suspicious of a possible new case due to my wife and son waking up with bites, and some suspicious stains on our sheets. The passive monitoring (interceptors) remain clear and I could not find any other signs in our bedroom. Out of precaution I had a K9 inspection company come out and the dog did not alert to anything/no obvious signs of a new infestation on the upper 2 floors.
When the inspector and K9 got to the room where the previous infestation (6 months ago) started the dog also did not alert to anything but focused on an area of the baseboard where the inspector noticed what appeared to be fecal spotting. The inspector touched it and it smeared so we removed the baseboard underneath and nothing was found. No other signs were found in the room. Is it possible for 6 month old fecal spotting to smear that easily? No one sleeps in that room and we really don't spend much time in the basement since the initial infestation.
My question is if no one spends much time downstairs and no one sleeps downstairs, why would there be fresh fecal spotting in that room and not in our bedroom (2 stories up)? Could they be feeding on mice in the basement instead of moving upstairs for a human host?
