Ok so it's been about 3 weeks since we discovered the bed bugs. We live in single family home. Found about 8 in total, some dead some alive. The weird thing is since I spread the DE over two weeks ago, I thought I'd see more dead ones now. I've used it in every room, though minimal in some areas like the kitchen and dining room. I have found two live ones in the living room and one dead one. The live ones were slow and seemed to be dying which is good. I've yet to vacuum and reapply the bedrooms because I ordered food grade kind because the stuff I was using is mostly food grade but has other ingredients, and with two kids and a cat I wanted to reapply the better stuff. I'm thinking I don't have a major infestation as I was unable to find any convincing proof like fecal stains and blood spots in any of the bedrooms, and I only think I am finding the bugs here and there because I inspect every crumb I find lol. The two live ones I found in living room were during the day, which made me think I have a big infestation, but if they were dying, would that be why they are out? Maybe desperate and looking to feed? I realize hiring a PCO is the best thing to do, but right now it is simply not an option financially. We are going to try and save up so if this problem isn't gone in a couple months we will have to take that route. Sorry for rambling, so my questions are: if there wasn't any major evidence on beds or frames, would you consider that a smaller infestation, even though I have found 8, some during the day? Also, is it normal for them to start coming out during the day if they are dying from the DE? I'm going to get some supplies to make interceptors for my bed, would that be a good way to tell how big the infestation is? I stay home during the day with my kids and they do spend a lot of time during the day in the living room, is that enough that they would be hanging out down here instead of up in the bedrooms? Of course initially the first bug was found in our bed, a couple dead ones in initial inspection and one dead one in my sons closet, but not a ton. My kids are two, so it's not like they are sitting still when they are in the living room. I'm sorry if this is too much for one post. Just think it's weird that I can barely find them in the bedrooms, even dead ones and believe me I've been searching with flashlights, and I'm finding them in the living room downstairs more. Ugh, this is the most stressful thing I think I've ever dealt with.
