Hey guys. So yesterday I posted about a three puncture bite mark on my elbow. Trying to see what could have caused it. I DID have an adult female live bug (I think unfed) that I sadly found in my dresser. Sprayed and haven't honestly seen anything these months. No fecal matter , no stains on bed. No eggs. No carcasss. Nothing. Just now I found this dead bug by my dresser. I accidentally crushed it trying to put it on tape. But the penny is there fornsize. IT is huge!! How big can a bed bug get?! I thought at first a roach but I don't think so. The antennae was very long too. You can kind of see the pieces of it. Here are top and bottom views. Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Hi there,

I just had a case of the bedbugs a month ago and (hopefully) got rid of them with heat treatment.

I haven't seen any obvious traces of them since but yesterday I found something that resembled casting / a shell on my bed. How can I upload photos here for review?

Help would be great!

Thanks so much!

From a former lurker. I used this site to remind myself that the nightmare would eventually end, so I wanted to share my story too.

Four months of fighting bedbugs with a semi-cooperative roommate and I was done. From the stories I heard coming from other tenants, my apartment complex was just haunted by BBs (as well as the roaches and hornets we found). I bagged up everything I owned and moved in with family.

Of course I followed all the protocol, but with the damn mystery bites and their weird timelines, plus my very reactive and dry skin, it was so hard to tell if I had brought them in. I thought maybe, like they have evolved pesticide resistance, that it was possible they had found a way to beat the heat too? Or maybe I didn't launder the damn clothes long enough?

Finally threw down for a sniffer dog. Best idea I ever had. I picked one that was certified, from a well-loved PCO in my area. Having seen the reviews from folks who used them and the dogs successfully detected BBs, I was confident that my all-clear meant exactly that. I'm still going to run everything through the Zappbug 5x more, dry my clothes a few more times, put on mattress encasements, and put down Cimexa. I also dry-iced my car overnight with a huge block, and will do it again. (The PCO said he had heard of people doing this, and though the pup didn't detect any live bugs or eggs, the PCO himself did turn up a dead one in my car.)

What I'm not going to do any more is freak out because of groups of marks/bites. The PCO confirmed himself that old bites sometimes reactivate on him. He also did find scads of carpet beetles in the bed I was sleeping on (and tons of silverfish too, eww - but at least he knew what the droppings meant). I thought for sure my notorious bad luck was going to mean that carpet beetles or old bites couldn't be responsible for my recent troubles. Especially because I had two confirmed sightings of BBs in the old apartment complex. But having a BB dog from a solid PCO reassured me that I was doing the right thing.

Here's a bit of advice. When doing laundry, it actually might be better just to do it dry, as opposed to washing first. That way there's no dampness to give possible pockets of coolness.

Also, don't overload your loads. Had I spent $120 on half loads instead of $80 on laundering full loads, I would have been less freaked about the possibility of contamination.

Take it slow and methodically. But you really do have to give yourself permission to relax. My boyfriend and my dad both kept reassuring me, "They are JUST pests." Hard to remember sometimes when they feel so evasive and pervasive, and so gross. It's true though. As the boyfriend reminded me when I was mid-panic attack about pesticide resistance at 4 AM, "They can die like anything else." And they will and do.

Bedbugs freak us out because they feel like they could be anywhere and everywhere. But as the PCO noted, they tend to hang out unless disturbed or really well-established. If you can't afford a sniffer dog to locate them, you still know what the signs are if you're reading this forum. The PCO assured me - you WILL find signs. Remember, they always poop after eating, the little jerks.

And don't let yourself feel socially isolated or like an outcast. Bedbugs happen. Take proper precautions, work through the issue with the multi-pronged approach, and you don't have to strand yourself or feel guilty.

Hi! I know i have asked this question already but i still cant stop thinking about whether we brought bed bugs back with us from the hotel. So we stayed at the hotel nearly 4 months ago. 4 months next week. I havent found anything apart from blood on our sheets and i keep getting bites (im not 100% sure they are bites but they look like it) on my belly and fingers. I think it’s weird how i dont get them anywhere else on my body. The blood that i find worries me because most of the time there’s few little dots of it and a smear. And we dont have any cuts or anything else. Is it possible that bed bugs are hiding under the carpet and that’s the reason why i cant see any evidence? Or maybe im just not looking properly...The first week or two after we got back i’ve found something that looked like an egg to me but im not sure what it was. Unfortunatelly i didnt take a picture of it it was only one „egg” between a bed frame and a slat. I remember it was squishy. My question is : Would i find a lot of evidence by now if we do actually have them? Im sick of checking our bed few times a day. I’ve had enough of thinking about bed bugs

I don't think these are bed bugs but I'm really not sure what they are, I've found probably close to 10 of them so far, this is by far the largest cluster yet. All have been found dried up.

so my story seems to be a bit confusing. my cats have been on flea treatment since september. one of them has flea allergy dermatitis and will get scabs around her neck when she has fleas. i treated both with revolution and assumed the problem was over since her scabs healed up quickly. however, they seemed to constantly be itching, despite the treatment. once the one month of flea treatment was up, i started noticing little scabs on her neck again so i put them back on revolution, cleaned the heck out of my house, the usual stuff. this is around the time i started getting mystery bites and started thinking maybe i had bb's, though there were absolutely no signs of them. the bed i was sleeping on had a metal frame and there were no casings, no dead bugs, no spots on the sheets, nothing. but still bites. i put DE on the floor and still no signs, but bites persisted.

i moved during this time (no furniture, only clothes that were dried extensively) to my parents place in a super run down apartment building. cats were still itchy, bites were still occurring at an even faster rate and now, even under my clothes. i freaked, checked the bed and couldn't draw any conclusions. all i saw at the head of the bed was what seemed to be a super tiny clear spider, i assumed a bb nymph, but it ran so fast that i couldn't grab it. i told my mom about it and she thought i was crazy since she had never been bit. they've lived there for over ten years, haven't travelled in maybe the last two years and no one ever comes over. i told her the bugs can come through outlets, wall crevices, many different ways in apartment buildings. she said the neighbours have been the same for quite some time and they also have kids so if they had bb's, they would likely at least seek treatment. frustrating.

perhaps a week ago, i started noticing what looks like tiny clear/brown worms crawling on the bed. they are so tiny, very hard to see. i know these aren't bb's but could these be the culprits of the bites? how likely is it that i brought them with me? if they are flea larvae, where the heck did they come from since both cats are medicated and all i brought were thoroughly cleaned clothes? i am moving again in the next few weeks (and getting the furniture from my old place, no mattress though, lol) into my friends apartment. i would be mortified if i brought any type of infestation with me. should i be treating for bb's even though all i've seen is that unconfirmed nymph? if they were biting my cats, wouldn't i see the bites? i am so very worried so all advice is appreciated.

Anybody have any thoughts on whether or not this may be a fecal stain? It was found in the bedroom, on the side of a metal rack that holds some of my clean clothing. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I’m a bit of a hypochondriac but I’m feeling as if I may have bed bugs. I moved into a new house last week and two days after moving in a began feeling very itchy. Nobody else in my family feels itchy, just me. I searched online on why I may have itchy skin and bed bugs kept popping up.

I went into panic mode and started tearing apart my mattress, took off my mattress protector and started my search. I couldn’t find anything, no black spots, shells, eggs or bugs. I spent a good two hours looking for signs in my room. I get itchy when I’m in my room though.

I took off my dust cover from my box spring and searched in and out. I found something weird on the wood.. see first picture. Could this be sign of bugs? Even though I cannot find anything else.

Also, I go to the gym often and have acne on my back but now I’m thinking it could be from
bed bugs? Not itchy on my upper back though, more so arms, legs, face, waist. See second picture of back.

Any advice would help. Please!!

About 17 days ago I went out of town and stayed with a family friend. About 4 days after I came home I had 40+ bites show up some in a line 3-4 in a row , mostly on shoulders and hands and a few on toes which were all exposed.
Of course I've never felt with this so I didn't held precautions and didn't keep everything off he bed or sepeated. A few more show up each day one or two and now my children have some on their hands and torso but husband has none.
I've encased box springs and mattress, moved bed away from wall, searched everywhere for signs I see none, and I've done all the laundry at least 4 times.
I just want it all to stop and I haven't seen anything in our apartment except carpet beetle larvae the furry stage in the barhroom and pantry.
Please help. It's only been 17 days but this is making me go crazy it's all I think about.

Hello. We had a guest stay in our condo recently and he had multiple bites on his arms before he left. We found all of these under the bed today.

The bug in the first 4 photos was dead. Not sure if this is a bed bug or not, please ID.

Also, in the 4 photos below do any of these look like bed bug cast skins? Need to know if we should have the place treated for bed bugs by exterminator. Thank you!

Hi there,

Bit of a back story. I rent a condo, and have been here for 5 years bed bug free. Recently, I’ve had new neighbours move in who have/had bed bugs. Joy. They were treated shortly after moving in according to the landlord.

About a month and a half ago, I woke up with a couple bites on my leg. Didn’t think anything of it as I wasn’t aware of the problem next door. Then.. I found one adult bed bug crawling on top of my duvet a few weeks ago (first pic attached). I immediately got on the phone and had an inspection done, to which I was apparently “cleared”. No sign whatsoever. While the inspectors were here they also looked at the neighbours place and apparently found nothing.

Fast forward a few weeks... two new bites on my arm and am finding these teeny bugs in the monitors the inspectors left.

Can someone please indentify? The photos aren’t the best, but hoping someone out there can properly indentify. Booklice? BB?

Thanks!

I just moved in my apartment three weeks ago, and saw BBs on the first night here. When I woke up the next morning, after spending my first night here i saw a BB on the wall, but was unsure of what it was. Two days later I saw another BB, a8nd started a Google search to figure out what it was. After informing the rental office the next day, i was told this was the first time they heard of it, and someone would contact me by COB. Needless to say it didn't happen, so I called the next day to be told oh this is serious a nd it is going up to the Corporate office. They called their PCO who ca me out the next week, and claimed to see nothing. The manager called to inform me thast the PCO saw nothing and it was an liability to the company if he said there was none, but their were. Meanwhile my three kids are getting bitten nightly which has swollen up. Fast forward a week later I found three more BB's, put them in a zip lock bag and took them to the rental office. After being smarted by one of the office worker, she e-mailed her manager pictures. A week later I received a notice in the mail that they were sending PCO to treat, and what I needed to do prior to treatment. Fast forward 1st treatment completed on 11/30, and I saw maybe two dead Bb's since, but I am still seeing live ones and my son and daughter is still being bitten. I emailed the rental office pics of the BB's i am still seeing , and wanted to know if they were coming back to do a 2nd treatment. She informed me he would come to inspect again and a decision will be made from there. I know there should be at least two treatments, and to inspect again delays the process to get rid of all these things. My kids and I are already anemic with Sickle Cell, so we cant have something feeding on our blood. So I tried to call terminix myself for inspection amd treatment and was told because I live in an apartment they can't come out to inspect or treat without LL approval. This is very frustrating , I cant sleep at night because I am checking on my kids all night as well as trying to make sure i am not being bitten. Please help with some tactics. I am afraid this is going to get worst for my kids and I.
